To live is to be aware of existence. Not only of one's personal existence but of all that is. It assumes an undeniable yet mysterious connectedness to being. By Jim's estimation, this is an unalienable awareness--an awareness of the omnipotent Creator. The thumbprint of the Creator's Divine Personality embedded in our psyche, and on creation.
This composition is made in effort to glorify the Creator, creation, and the act of being. Also it has one intellectual thesis: this type of Omnipotence presumes Omnipresence. They are inextricable from each other. For Jim the Creator's personality is true to the creation, which is omnipresent in all that is.
the structure of the piece reflects the paradox of the simplicity of the fact of Creation paired with the unfathomable profundity of the universe. The goal is to make something simple, endlessly flexible, and relevant--something that never betrays the simple fact of its nature in the face of its different manifestations and improvisations:
the main theme of is the simple melody, punctuated by 4 short phraselets
with the time signature changing each phrase:
5/4,4/4,7/4,6/4. resulting in a very short form with a total of 22 beats. You get the the sense of forward motion that 11/4 provides, but without a jarring lopsidedness. Doubling 11 to 22 provides a duple meter smoothness. Instead of relying on subdivisions to "split the beat" to create the potential for the back beat, they rhythm is mostly organized around big beats and the quarter-note.
The brevity of the song form provides a more digestible, repeating, but always shifting landscape that aids meditative listening.
