[It's position firmly midway in the album is a reference to how true beginnings are revealed in the MIDDLE of things.]
The first act of wisdom for Jim was for him to accept humility.
He takes pride in his effort to conjure creative ideas, and to create musical worlds. He enjoys the feeling of accomplishment when he feels he "clevered" his way into a composition.
"Beginning Wisdom" was less satisfying for his ego. A set of palindromic shapes kind of just happened by accident. Whenever Jim tried to Clever his way into to a different musical phrase, section or episode, it just never was the right thing.
thankfully he eventually acquired the humility to accept the fact that he didn't deserve credit for the merits of the composition, and got out of the music's way. The music rewarded him with a type of piece that Jim had never thought of before--all by accident. The music was even courteous enough to leave a natural spot for a piano solo, embedded in the form.
The result is one of the best things Jim has ever done. Way more moving, sophisticated, and coherent than an effort to "will the piece into being."
